Analysis of centrality in sublinear preferential attachment trees via the CMJ branching process

چکیده
We investigate centrality properties and the existence of a finite confidence set for the rootnode in growing random tree models. We show that a continuous time branching processescalled the Crump-Mode-Jagers (CMJ) branching process is well-suited to analyze such randomtrees, and establish centrality and root inference properties of sublinear preferential attachmenttrees. We show that with probability 1, there exists a persistent tree centroid; i.e., a vertex thatremains the tree centroid after a finite amount of time. Furthermore, we show that the samecentrality criterion produces a finite-sized 1− ǫ confidence set for the root node, for any ǫ > 0.

Persistence of centrality in random growing trees
We investigate properties of node centrality in random growing tree models. We focus on a measure of centrality that computes the maximum subtree size of the tree rooted at each node, with the most central node being the tree centroid. For random trees grown according to a preferential attachment model, a uniform attachment model, or a diffusion processes over a regular tree, we prove that a si...
متن کاملUniversal techniques to analyze preferential attachment trees: Global and Local analysis
We use embeddings in continuous time Branching processes to derive asymptotics for various statistics associated with different models of preferential attachment. This powerful method allows us to deduce, with very little effort, under a common framework, not only local characteristics for a wide class of scale free trees, but also global characteristics such as the height of the tree, maximal ...
متن کاملOpinion Leadership on Gun Control in Social Networks: Preferential Attachment versus Reciprocal Linking
This study involves a network analysis on Twitter discourse about gun control. In a test of competing models explaining social network dynamics, preferential attachment versus reciprocity, the latter received stronger support for the data set as a whole. Outdegree centrality at Time 1 was more closely correlated with degree centrality at Time 2 than was indegree centrality at Time 1. However, a...
متن کاملBetweenness centrality as a driver of preferential attachment in the evolution of research collaboration networks
We analyze whether preferential attachment in scientific coauthorship networks is different for authors with different forms of centrality. Using a complete database for the scientific specialty of research about ―steel structures,‖ we show that betweenness centrality of an existing node is a significantly better predictor of preferential attachment by new entrants than degree or closeness cent...
متن کاملGrowth of preferential attachment random graphs via continuous-time branching processes
Some growth asymptotics of a version of ‘preferential attachment’ random graphs are studied through an embedding into a continuous-time branching scheme. These results complement and extend previous work in the literature.
